Kenwood Ksc-Sw11 Review: Why would we recommend this system?
In producing bass, you need to have an enclosure, sub, as well as an amplifier, however matching these up could be a little bit tricky.
Through the use of a powered sub with its subwoofer and carefully matched amplifier and enclosure all the hassles that you might encounter in producing bass in your car will be eliminated, we wrote this Kenwood Ksc-Sw11 Review in hopes that this information might save you some time and money.
This all-in-one solution developed by Kenwood is especially designed for smaller vehicles where there is not enough space to mount a separate amplifier as well as in a vehicle where car owners need cargo space. Most of the powered subs on the market today are small and flat boxes which fit well under your seat however there are bigger more powerful systems which you can put in your trunk.
So, if the bass in your car is too weak or lacking fullness, the Kenwood ksc-sw11 will help to improve this issue. The size is perfect to be fitted under you seat. It does not need a large amount of space so you won’t have any problem in installing this into your car.
The frequency response and volume of the subwoofer can be changed pretty easily with the wired remote that comes with this unit as well. This means you do not need to adjust settings at the amplifier every time you want more bass. The frequency response button on the wired remote will help you get the tune that fits well into your ears.
[Kenwood KSC-SW11 Review] – Install
Installing the Kenwood KSC-SW11 is pretty simple. Kenwood supplies you with all of the wires and mounting brackets youll need to properly tackle this job. The wiring harness contains your power wires and your signal wires needed to get this unit pounding.
When mounting this powered enclosure make sure to mount it in a place where damage is less likely to happen to it. Meaning, make sure to keep away from damp or wet areas and away from places air wont flow freely through. Every amp needs some air to keep cool.
[Kenwood Ksc-Sw11 Review] – Wiring
The wiring harness included with this powered bass system is pretty strait forward. They basically set the wiring up for different situations that youll find in different cars, not all cars will allow you to run wires the same way. They got huge ‘Cool Points’ from us when we saw how versatile the wiring harness and the wired bass knob could be.
Traditionally there has been two different ways to wire up powered subwoofer enclosure systems. The same is true with the Kenwood KSC-SW11. They utilized a Hi and Lo level input option to allow you to use a factory stereo and an aftermarket stereo. More and more vehicle owners are deciding to keep their factory radios because of the convenient options they have. Here’s a brake down of every wire on the Ksc-Sw11 Harness:
[Kenwood Ksc-Sw11 Review] – Wire Harness Color Code:
- (Yellow Wires – Constant 12V) – Should be hooked up to your vehicles battery or to a constant 12 volt source at your ignition harness if that circuit is enough to power it.
- (Blue Wire W/ White stripe – Amp Turn-on) – Should be hooked up to a circuit that only receives 12 Volts while the vehicle is running such as an ignition wire or cigarette light harness on some vehicles.
- (Red RCA – Right side signal input) – Should be plugged into the corresponding red RCA plug from with Grey speaker wires.
- (White RCA – Left Side signal input) – Should be plugged into the corresponding white RCA plug with white speaker wires.
Now that you understand where all of the wires on your white harness plug should hook up to in your vehicle, lets talk about how you actually take sound from your car and bring it into your amplifier.
[Kenwood Ksc-Sw11 Review] – What Are The Grey and White Wires For?
You’ll notice a roll of grey and white wires connected to RCA’s. These are your input signal wires, youll be using these to hook up to your speaker wires either behind your radio or in another location closer to the speakers themselves.
Understand that when you are making a connection to an existing connection not taking the connection. What I mean by that is you will be splicing the existing wires without actually cutting the ones that are already there.
Signal Input Wires:
- (Grey Wire W/ Black Stripe) – Hook this wire up to your front Right Speaker’s negative wire.
- (Grey Wire W/ No Stripe) – Hook this wire up to your front Right Speakers Positive Wire.
- (White Wire W/ Black Stripe) – Hook this wire to your front left Speakers negative wire.
- (White wire W/ No Stripe) – Hook this wire up to your front left speakers Positive wire.
Kenwood Ksc-Sw11 Review: Final Thoughts
When it comes to the price, there is nothing to worry about. You can purchase this kenwood unit at a very pretty affordable price. That’s probably one of the biggest reasons our customers pick these up.
Id say the second reason would have to be the ease of install, everyone wont have the time to make it to a shop to get their vehicles worked on. Its just not always realistic for everybody, so it makes sense to pick something up that should be a bit easier to install that will still give you the effect you need.
This unit saves my customers a heck ton of money for a couple of reasons, it comes with all the necessary wiring needed for the install and requires no custom modifications! We reviewed a couple of other small powered subwoofers, check out some of our reviews we wrote about them to compare.
Lets not forget the fact that this unit is a subwoofer, subwoofer enclosure and an amplifier. This will save you some money in the shop, the installers wont have to mount an amp and then mount a sub and figure out how to get wires to them. With the Kenwood KSC-Sw11 you just mount and run the wires, that’s all.
