This Ones For The Bass Heads
This Review is over-due. Its actually funny that this one slipped through the cracks, especially with the amount of trucks we install these woofers into. This subwoofer is my general go-to for performance bass in a pickup truck. So, without further a’due we bring you the Alpine SWR-T12 Review.
Thus a sub-woofer that is not only compact but also has enough cone area to provide that ultimate music experience is what you get with the recent SWR-T12 thin subwoofers from Alpine.
Its low profile design is capable of delivering extremely powerful bass even in small cars or compact spaces. The SWR-T12 consists of 7 unique and specialized technologies unique to Alpine.
For those who are really big fans of the traditional Type-R series from Alpine, would love to know that this SWR-T12 shares the same DNA and qualities of the Type-R series.
Because of this shared DNA the new SWR-T12 is also capable of crazy output and it packs power handling abilities, deeper bass extension, accurate and fast transients, etc. that is not comparable to anything else currently available in the market.
The best part of SWR-T12 is that, apart from inheriting the best features from the Type-R series, this SWR-T12 delivers everything that too in less than half of Type-R series original depth.
Find Your Audio System's Ideal Wire Gauge
The sub-woofer is very efficient in using a series of adjacent rolls to get its cone moving and all of this without compromising on quality and without occupying too much of space.
All this is because of its unique spider design and the use of a highly advanced motor structure which carefully reduces the subwoofers profile while maintaining its accuracy.
The same segmented spider design of the SWR-T12 sub-woofer enables it to provide an excursion that is equivalent to the excursion provided by a tall subwoofer. As most of the shallow mount sub-woofers you might have used until now provide less output compared to other traditional non shallows.
That is mostly because of their shallow frame limits and the movability of their cones, especially at high power levels. But the SWR-T12 subwoofer is equipped with one of the Alpine’s patent technologies known as the Pass-Through Gap Geometry technology.
This technology allows the unique Thermoplastic Elastomer Segmented Spider to completely pass easily via its motor structure.
Alpine SWR-T12 Review
The SWR-T12 has a mounting depth of 3.5 inches and is equipped with a long cone excursion.hence it is one of the best devices to provide a deep and highly satisfying bass while you tune in your favorite music. The Alpine SWR-T12 is capable of handling more power when compared to other shallow-mount subwoofers because of its dynamic neodymium magnet structure.
With that magnet this sub can handle up to 600 watts RMS for thump. This neodymium magnet is five times stronger than the standard ferrite magnets which are used in other sub-woofers. This device is perfect to provide adequate clearance especially for over 50mm of peak-to-peak excursion.
The SWR-T12 is also aided with Alpine’s another patented technology the Radial Vented VC Heat Sink and Airflow Management System. Both these equipment’s aid in minimizing power compression and ensures long playing time, by not allowing the device to heat up that much.
Any heavy-duty assembly will require a heavy-duty cone material, hence the SWR-T12 consists of a parabolic aluminium cone woofer. This aluminium cone woofer is specially engineered by using the injection-moulded force transfer assembly methodology.
It is this unique method that provides the cone with its basic structure along with outstanding stiffness.
The High-Amplitude Multi Roll Surround Design, present in this subwoofer, allows for you to have extreme excursions without compromising on any one area.
One more of Alpine’s patented technology is used to build this ultimate subwoofer. The Dual-Sided Compound Radius Curve pole geometry which is used in making the SWR-T12 enables it to provide an ultra-symmetrical magnetic field.
This goes along with a highly optimized flux density which is very good for reducing distortions while improving the output and power handling ability of the device.
Have you noticed the new technology they are implementing so far? If I kept going we would be here all day, haha. For a clean and neat look Alpine has used a Concealed Mount Gasket System, which efficiently covers all of its mounting screws.
The subwoofer comes with a pre-installed black rubber gasket ring, which should be removed before drilling the mounting screws. The entire assembly is constructed out of an injection mould resin instead of the regular phenolic stiffened textile.
Because of this, you don’t need any kind of break in when using this subwoofer to reach its ideal performance level.

Installation Tips
The SWR-T12 is engineered to provide more flexibility and application versatility required for easy installation. Being 3-1/2” deep, the 12” subwoofer is capable of delivering deep bass performance even at places where it would normally not fit.
With a 0.6 cu/ft sealed enclosure it can deliver a great bass performance just anywhere in your vehicle. It is recommended to use a sealed box with sizes that range from 0.4 cu/ft to 0.75 cu/ft and the recommended vented box volume to be used should be around 1.0 cu/ft to 1.5 cu/ft

The Alpine SWR-T12 subwoofers are ideal for places with limited space, especially like a pick-up truck and other compact cars.
It is highly recommended that you use a mono block amplifier that’s rated between 450 and 900 watts RMS at 4 ohms to drive this single subwoofer system.
Unless of coarse, your having fried subwoofer for dinner.
