The Garmin Nuvi 2798lmt is by far our favorite GPS unit. Lately we have been installing them in fleet vehicles for large companies that handle deliveries.
We found that this unit was stupid simple to install and even easier to use, couldn’t have enjoyed the installation any more than we did.
The coolest part about the installation was that we didn’t need to run wires from the front of the vehicle all the way to the back. This was made possible by the wireless backup camera module that wireless-ly sends the image to the Garmin GPS up front.
The wireless backup camera has a power and ground that is generally tied in with the the reverse light circuit so that it is not always powered.
Though we like to connect the backup camera module to a switched source that only powers when you are reversing you can connect it to a 12v accessory source that stays powered when the vehicle is on whether or not you are in reverse.
Just remember you will have to physically press the backup camera button on the Garmin Display in order to see the backup camera image.
The actual GPS unit is installed up front only needs a cigarette lighter connection. That adapter comes in the box and is simply plug and play.
However, there are times when we use an adapter that converts the Garmin’s cigarette lighter plugin adapter to a power and ground wire. We usually do this when the customer would like a stealthy install with no wires showing.
What’s in the box?
