The Viper 5906V is one of the best products in the line of remote start alarm systems available from Viper.
Viper is itself a well-known brand when it comes to car security and automatic remote car starter systems, but this alarm system allows for a pretty big verity of add-on security modules that a lot of people don’t talk about.
As a matter of fact the reason I call this alarm “the best alarm for vandalism” is due to the really particular add on modules that really make this thing shine. Ill go over both modules, how they work and break down why they have been working for our customers to prevent vandalism.
How Does The Viper 5906v Help deter vandalism?
In short, its not just the viper 5906v that eliminates vandalism. Its actually how perfectly it works with a combination of 2 inexpensive modules that can be easily added on. Theoretically, an alarm only does a few important things:
- Locks/unlocks your car
- monitors shock or impact to your vehicle
- monitors when doors are opened if vehicle is locked.
- Alerts you (the owner)
Unfortunately vandals don’t always open the door or cause enough impact to the vehicle to sound the alarm. This is where these two modules come into play.
Some Helpful Content
Dual Zone Motion Sensor
DEI or Directed, the same company who makes Viper and a few other brands makes an amazing motion detector for the interior and exterior of a vehicle.
You can install these units onto factory alarm systems and onto viper alarm systems systems also. However installing them onto a viper alarm brain is a heck ton easier.
What Is A Motion Sensor?
Simply put, it detects motion. The unique thing about it is what it does when it detects the motion. When the motion sensor detects motion it will then launch the first stage notification. This first stage will sound 2 or the 3 chirps from the alarm siren just to warn a possible intruder.
The second stage is a full on alarm, this will sound the alarm fully and alert your 2 way alarm remote if you have an alarm that comes with 2 way functionality.
Glass Break Sensor
Some years ago Directed created a Glass break sensor. Some people also call it an audio sensor and it literally does what it sounds like it does, senses glass braking ha ha ha. It does however go a lot deeper than that. In our opinion this is the 2nd and last addition to the 5906v viper alarm to deter vandalism.
What Is A Glass Break Sensor? (Audio Sensor)
A glass break sensor will detect frequencies similar to the frequencies glass makes when it is busted or shattered. What we tend to see is glass broken on vandalized vehicles. Vandals are either breaking glass for no reason or they are with intent to steal.
If and when they do break the glass the sensor will alert the viper 5906v, the 5906v will then send an alert to its included 2-way pager and let you know the alarm was triggered (if you didn’t hear the siren).
How Do These 2 modules Help to Deter Vandalism?
The way we have seen it in this industry there are a few things that happen with break-ins or vandalism situations:
- Glass is broken for vandalism purposes
- Glass is broken with intent to steal
- Car is Keyed or gouged
- Tires are slashed
- Car is spray painted or marked some how
All of these situations can be lessened an in some cases eliminated altogether due to one or more of these modules or viper 5906v features. I made a quick list of issues and what particular options these modules have that will help to eliminate them.
Occurrence | What Eliminates Occurrence |
---|---|
Glass Broken | Motion Detector & Glass Break Sensor |
Tires Slashed | Motion Sensor |
Car Is Keyed | Motion Detector |
Car Is Hit With Force | Shock sensor on Viper 5906v |
Car is Spray painted or Marked somehow | Motion Detector |
I know that was a lot of information, maybe a bit too much. We feel that when it comes to the safety of your vehicles we should take a bit of time to really go in depth and be as detailed as possible. We take your safety very seriously.
Now Lets discuss the Viper 5906v
This alarm is one of Viper’s higher end models. Its been around since 2014 and because of its efficiency, features and longevity has continued to be our high end standard in our shops. Viper alarm systems haven’t changed much simply because they don’t need to.
The system consists of pretty high end remote start system and provides a standard Viper keyless entry option for your car. The Viper 5906V comes with a built in information center.
This information center includes all sorts of info of the entire system such as the remote start timer countdown, this features informs you for how long your car engine will be running and also the interior temperature of the car.
You can then change the temperature according to your liking before boarding your car.
The same system will also inform you about the countdown and parking meter timers. The same will send you a warning signal after every 15 minutes, 5 minutes and even at meter expiration, hence you can easily avoid those pesky parking tickets.
You can also install another 5906 brain into another vehicle and use the same key fobs for that vehicle. This means you can use the same key fob for both alarms in both vehicles on the fly. Something alot of customers have been asking for.
When changing remotes, the HD system of the responder will automatically check your vehicle’s availability and if the car is not available it will inform you about it.
The remote consists 4 command buttons divided into two categories basic and advanced. The basic command function control consists of the most frequently used security and remote start features. Whereas the advanced command controls certain specialized features on your request.
You can also customize all these features and functions of the HD remote through its settings, options and adjustments menu.
The Settings menu consists of:
- button auto lock
- alert types
- animations
- button beeps
- paging
- temp units.
The Adjustments menu consists of:
- clock settings
- timer start
- smart start
- remote pair
- sensor adjust.
The Options menu consists of:
- power off
- parking meter
- countdown timer
- name tags
- demo mode
- level 1-5 screen brightness.
The last menu that will be displayed on the screen is the Exit menu, and its only function is to exit from other menus.
The Viper 5906V comes with a built in remote start system which has a shock sensor also. The purpose of this shock sensor is to detect any intrusion attempts on your vehicle.
You can customize this sensors sensitivity and optimize it to your vehicle’s detection levels without generating any false alarms.
Remember all remote starters on a manual transmission vehicle operate differently when compared to those with automatic transmission, because in case of manual transmission you have to leave you vehicle in neutral.
This unit comprises of many features and because of these features the Responder HD remote control is one of the most unique remote controls, currently available in the market.
Hence an efficient battery charge system is the backbone of this entire set-up and to maximize the duration between two charges, following steps should be taken:
- Turn off the remote when not in use
- Set the animations settings to trigger only
- Turn the paging feature off (but remember when done so, the remote will stop receiving trigger messages from your system)
- Turn off the beeps

Installation:
It is recommended that the system should be installed by an authorized dealer only. I’ve had to diagnose bad alarm installations time and time again. What usually happens is that we end up charging for diagnoses time. On top of that the customer ends up having us install a new alarm.
Remote pair is a simple process in which the Responder HD and the alarm system within your vehicle identify each other’s encryption codes while securing their communication from intruders. So, this part can be done via the instruction manual by the owner.
Pros:
- The package is exclusive of SmartStart module, hence you have to purchase it separately
- Excellent design and strong build quality
- Equipped with latest security features
- A customized OLED display remote
Cons: A bit expensive. Well.. really expensive.
